The Success Strategies of Female Artists in Hungary During the 1920s and 1930s
Examining the Career Paths of Józsa Járitz, Kató Lukáts, and Noémi Ferenczy
My thesis examines the Success Strategies of Female Artists in Hungary during the 1920s and 1930s. My goal is to present the branches of feminist critique that are applicable in the context of Hungarian art history, and to uncover the factors that influenced the career development of female Hungarian artists. In the course of my research, I focused on women's access to art education and artistic visibility. Through an overview of the career paths of three female artists: Józsa Járitz, Kató Lukáts, and Noémi Ferenczy, I discovered patterns in their success strategies that align with the international literature on feminist discourse. In my thesis, I have come to the conclusion that despite women's emancipation, discrimination still persists through gender stereotypes embedded in the art world.
