The Issue of the Photographic Object in the Work of Walead Beshty
The topic of my thesis is the photographic object/photosculpture in the context of contemporary photographic art, as an intersection between sculpture and photography. My thesis is not a historical overview of photography but rather an exploration of how and why a photograph may transcend into three-dimensional space and can become an object (sculpture) that challenges or supersedes certain traditionally fundamental elements of photography, such as representation, flatness, or the material of the medium (paper). I seek to examine this apparent contradiction, primarily through the works of Walead Beshty.
