Corset, Body Image, and Gender Relations
The Silhouette Changes of Corsets and the Evolution of Gender Roles Throughout History, as Well as the Philosophical Significance of Corsets in Modern Fashion Relative to the Status of Women
My thesis presents the silhouette changes of corsets, as well as the evolution of gender relations throughout history. I also discuss the corsets that appear in modern fashion and their philosophical significance relative to the status of women. Throughout my research, I primarily seek to answer the divisive question of whether the renaissance of corsets in fashion heralds new formal, aesthetic, and philosophical directions, or simply reintroduces long-forgotten ideals into the collective consciousness.
