Repositioning Folk Dance Houses in the 21st Century
The Institutional Frameworks an Independent Initiatives of String Instrument-Led Hungarian Folk Dance Houses in Budapest
My thesis research examines the repositioning of urban dance houses in the cultural life of Budapest in the 21st century. Through the analysis of four influential dance-houses - Hagyományok Háza (Hungarian Heritage House), Fonó Budai Zeneház (Fonó Buda Music House), Aranyszeg, and Erdőfű dance houses - my research aims to uncover the criticisms, challenges, and opportunities that the dance house culture faces in contemporary times. My thesis also delves into the history of the 'revival' movement of the 1970s, seeking both parallels and differences in the dynamics of cultural and countercultural initiatives of the past and the present time.
