The Role and History of Sound Design in Video Games
The Evolution of Sound Design in the Virtual World
My thesis aims to explore the immersion created by sounds in the world of video games. Sounds in video games can take various forms, including character voices, environmental noises, musical segments, or special effects that accompany the gameplay. My research analyses orchestration techniques such as dynamic soundscapes, surround sound, and localised timing of sounds, all of which contribute to the depth and quality of immersion. Furthermore, the research examines the differences among individual games and analyses which sounds and sound effects are capable of engaging players more deeply in the game world.
