The aim of the present dissertation is to present the concept of carnival through the aesthetic concept of Mikhail Bakhtin. With this concept, to analyze the principles of the Carnival and its impact in the action series of the dramatic performances in the hungarian folklore,and also, in the activist theater of Agusto Boal. The main part of the dissertation is the examination of the principle, function and aesthetic concept of the carnival through the mentioned examples. The focus is about the comparison of the carnival principle and the theory of liminality introduced by Victor Turner, followed by an examination of this model in dramatic performances, and the forum theater of Boal.
